Xiaomi Mi 5c Leaked in Images, Detailing Design Ahead of Launch

Xiaomi Mi 5c Leaked in Images, Detailing Design Ahead of LaunchXiaomi Meri aka Mi 5c has been leaked on several occasions, and is tipped to be the first smartphone from the Chinese smartphone maker to sport an in-house processor. Now, in fresh leaks, the smartphone has been snapped roaming in the wild before its official release, hinting at its imminent arrival.

The live images of the Xiaomi Mi 5c were spotted on Weibo and they pretty much speak the same story as previous leaks. It sports a sleek frame with round edges, and the fingerprint scanner is housed under the Home Button at the front. The volume and power buttons are both housed on the right edge, and the camera module with the flash is housed on the top right edge at the back.

The Xiaomi Mi 5c smartphone is expected to come in Rose Gold, Gold, and Black colour variants. It is tipped to feature a 5.5-inch (1080×1920 pixels) full-HD display with 403ppi pixel density. It may be powered by an octa-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz and paired with 3GB of RAM and ARM Mali-T860 GPU. The smartphone will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based on MIUI 8 out of the box and support NFC-based payments.

The Xiaomi Meri smartphone is rumoured to be priced at CNY 1,499 (roughly Rs. 14,800), and as mentioned above, it is expected to be powered by Xiaomi’s in-house Pine Cone processor. The company has been reportedly working on its own processor for quite some time, and now the Chinese electronics company seems to be finally ready to launch it in the market. The in-house Pine Cone chipset is set to compete with other companies’ in-house chips like the Huawei-made Kirin chipset, and even Samsung’s Exynos chipset. It is largely expected to launch at an event in China on December 12.

Xiaomi Mi 5 Flagship Smartphone ‘Worth the Wait’, Says CEO

At Xiaomi’s launch event on Tuesday, we saw the launch of the Redmi Note 3 and Mi Pad 2, but not a word was revealed about the long-anticipated Mi 5 flagship smartphone. However, upon questioning, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun revealed that the handset “is worth the wait” and is “very, very good”.

Jun however, did not reveal when the company plans to launch the Mi 5 but he did reveal that Xiaomi is revamping its development cycle, as per a report by Sina Tech, a Chinese website (via Phonearena). This would result in a decrease of the time gap between the launch of two smartphones.

As per the latest leaks and rumours, the Xiaomi Mi 5 is rumoured to sport an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 v2.1 SoC, a processor family already seen on the Mi Note Pro. It is also rumoured to use the Snapdragon 820 SoC. However, a separate report had recently claimed that due to a delay in Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipsets, Xiaomi may opt for MediaTek deca-core Helio X20 processor. Some of the purported innards of the Mi 5 include 4GB of RAM; Adreno 530 GPU; a 5.3-inch QHD (1440×2560) pixels resolution display with pixel density of 554ppi; 16GB or 64GB inbuilt storage variants with no option for expandable storage; a 16-megapixel rear camera with dual-LED flash, and a 3030mAh battery.

As per a report from earlier this month, the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 5 will launch at a December 3 event. Considering that the Xiaomi Mi 4 was unveiled back in July last year; the company certainly seems to have slowed slow with the production of its next-generation flagship smartphone.
